Baltimore, MD. Siegfried Gerstung, President and Founder of Gerstung Inter-Sport, Gerstung Camps and After School Programs, announced his curriculum for preventing obesity and diabetes in children. “First, we help heavier children, who may already feel somewhat isolated, build physical and movement skills which bolster their self esteem.” He further noted that, “Once children develop physical fitness, their parents report increased attention spans, better grades and more self confidence. Building body awareness in young children tends to stay with them for the rest of their lives and aids in protecting them from diseases occurring as a result of obesity.” The major components of his unique programs are: 1. Make it fun. Children will only become interested in fitness if it is fun and games. Siegfried Gerstung left Germany forty six years ago, after receiving teaching degrees in Physical and Art Education from the University of Munich and Musickhochschule [Conservatory] of Stuttgart. Shortly after arriving in America, he started Gerstung International Sports Education. He has taught his system to over 90, 000 of Baltimore’s children. Gerstung, also an inventor, has created and patented athletic products including - Gerstung Floors - a unique floating floor system that aids in preventing injuries to dancers and athletes; Gerstung Running Squares; Gerstung Children’s Gymnastic Equipment along with his unique methods of teaching children’s fitness.
